Moshe Sharett, Personal Diaries

Abstract:

These diaries cover the crucial and turbulent period 1953-1957, preceding and immediately after the Tripartite invasion of Egypt by Britain, France, and Israel in October 1956. Sharett was in constant disagreement on foreign and military policy with the paramount Zionist leader and first prime minister of Israel, David Ben Gurion. Because Sharett confided to his diaries his innermost thoughts and misgivings about Ben Gurion, this work affords unparalleled insights into Israeli decision-making and personalities. Ahmed Khalifeh’s superb translation is directly from the Hebrew text which was published by Sharett’s son in 1978.
