Abstract: 

This is the third volume of the collected diaries of Khalil al Sakakini, published in Ramallah by the Institute of Jerusalem Studies, and the Sakakini Cultural Centre. The volume covers the first period of British rule in Palestine (1919-1922), a critical moment in Palestinian and Arab history, marking the end of Ottoman rule, and the beginning of the implementation of the Balfour Declaration. It also witnessed the intensification of Jewish migration and colonial settlement in Palestine. The Memoirs were a living contemporary record of these events as witnessed by the author.

About the Author(s)

Khalil SAKAKINI (1878 - 1953) is a Palestinian writer and educator. Born in Jerusalem, Sakakini's early life was devoted to Arab letters. During the mandate period, Sakakini continued his advocacy of public education. He participated in the early Palestinian national movement, and his diaries are an important source for scholars of the period. He is best remembered for his books on teaching Arabic to beginners.

Akram MOUSALLAM was born in Palestine, and studied Arabic literature at Birzeit University. He is presently an editor at the Al-Ayyam Palestinian newspaper.
