Guarded Optimist on the Peace Process

HANAN ASHRAWI, the spokesperson of the Palestinian delegation at the Madrid conference and Washington talks, was elected to the Palestinian legislative council in January 1995 and is the minister of higher education in the Palestinian Authority. She was interviewed in Jerusalem on 27 January 1997 by Julia Hawkins of the Institute for Jerusalem Studies, the IPS's Jerusalem affiliate.
