Samia A. Halaby: was born in Jerusalem, Palestine in 1936. She is a visual artist, writer, scholar, and activist. Now, rounding out her sixth decade as an active painter, she continues to explore abstraction and its relationship to reality. Samia Halaby has developed a theoretical view of art history which is more appropriate for her use as a painter. This was done due to an insight that Western art history is written in a manner which excludes non-westerners and places them in lesser categories. The theory encompasses the history of pictures from the beginning of time to the present.
