Abstract:
This study analyzes the “novel” role of Israel in U.S. regional and international strategy, in the wake of the Egyptian-Israeli treaty and the Iranian revolution. It concludes that Israel is not a strategic burden on the U.S. Rather, the U.S. has an interest in maintaining Israel’s military superiority in the region, despite the fact that Israel is no longer the sole strategic asset. Therefore, there is no threat to the U.S.- Israeli strategic alliance in the foreseeable future.
