في هذه المقالة التي نُشرت بالإنجليزية في سنة 2000، يروي الكاتب الفلسطيني الكبير إدوارد سعيد وقائع الحلقة التي نظمتها مجلة "الأزمنة الحديثة" عن السلام في الشرق الأوسط في سنة 1979، وكانت أساس العدد الخاص الذي أصدرته المجلة عن الموضوع.
مضى خمسة عشر عاماً على هذه المقالة التي كتبها إدوارد سعيد عن الوضع في مدينة القدس، إلاّ إن دقّته في وصف حال المدينة تبقى لافتة، على الرغم من التدهور الهائل الذي لحق بها خلال هذه الفترة.
